Clarence was put down today. He was taken to the UGA Vet Teaching School this morning in the hopes that surgery could remove a growth on his tongue that was impairing his ability to eat. The doctors at UGA discovered a much larger tumor in his throat. After much discussion with those doctors, and with Clarence’s regular vet, the decision was made for his sake.

Goodbye, Clarence. It was an honor taking care of you all these years. He was approximately 13 years old.

One of our cats,Clarence, has to have a complicated surgery at the vet teaching hospital at either UGA or Auburn University. His affliction is called a “ranula” —a large fleshy mass under his tongue(not cancerous) that is making eating and drinking near impossible. This surgery will cost well over $3000,because it requires high powered magnification to get around the salivary glands.Picture having a ping-pong ball stuck under your tongue, and that’s pretty accurate as to what this is like. He is 14 years old, but is otherwise in good health.
